World rated OPBF super flyweight champion Z “The Dream” Gorres battles IBF Pan – Pacific champion Hengky Wuwungan of Indonesia in a crucial tune-up fight in Cebu on October 20 in preparation for a possible world title shot in December.
In what is certain to be an exciting fight card, promising AJ Banal clashes with another hard-hitting Indonesian warrior Angky Angkota, the IBF Pan-Pacific light flyweight champion
The 24 year old Gorres has a record of 24-1-1 with 12 KO’s and is coming off an impressive ten round shutout against Pedro Rincon Miranda in Carson Citym California last May 27, dropping Miranda in the first, fifth and tenth rounds to win on the scorecards of all three judges 100-87. Gorres earlier won the vacant OPBF title with an impressive victory over Thailand’s Waenpetch Chuwatana last March 18.
The 30 year old Wuwugan has won 20 of his 23 fights with many of his victims being talented Filipino fighters including former champion Johnny Lear, Isidro Lorona, Pedro Malco and Jaime Barcelona.
The 17 year old southpaw Banal is undefeated with 7 knockouts in eight wins and 1 draw but faces an acid test against Angkota who scored a stunning first round knockout over ALA boy Rocky Fuentes last May 5. The Indonesian who is a feared power puncher is coming off a first round TKO over Dechapol Bankluaygym last May 6.
Angkota has also had big wins over former world champion Joma Gamboa as well as Donnie Nietes, Marvin Tampus and Sonny Boy Jaro.
Gorres who is now promoted by Golden Boy Promotions along with Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista is being lined up by Golden Boy Promotions vice president and international matchmaker Eric Gomez for a title shot on a Golden Boy Promotions fight card in the third week of December making the Gorres showdown with Wuwungan all the more crucial.
