Former OPBF super flyweight champion Z “The Dream” Gorres will fight former WBC light flyweight champion Eric Ortiz who is now fighting at 115 pounds in the Philippines-Mexico World Cup of boxing at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California on Sunday.

International matchmaker Samson Lewkowicz and Golden Boy Promotions vice president Eric Gomez announced that Gerson Guerrero who was originally scheduled to fight Gorres is out due to illness and that Gorres will face Ortiz for the Intercontinental championship.

The two officials announced that a new opponent for AJ “Bazooka” Banal who was originally scheduled to fight Ortiz will be named soon.

Earlier, Michael Aldeguer who has taken over the mantle of his esteemed father, boxing patron Tony Aldeguer, informed Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that Gorres who had undergone laser treatment for a tiny tear in his retina was cleared to fight by eye specialist Dr. Steinschriber.

Gorres who is determined to overcome the robbery perpetrated on him when two judges, Raul Caiz and Chuck Giampa, and referee Samuel Viruet denied him the WBO title in a fight where he gave champion Fernando Montiel a boxing lesson for most of their title fight in February in Cebu was elated by the news.
