The famed ALA boys, OPBF super flyweight champion Z “The Dream” Gorres and teenage sensation  AJ Banal scored smashing victories against tough Indonesian opponents before a huge crowd at the Mandaue Sports & Cultural Complex late Saturday.

According to respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer who continues to nurse the careers of his promising talents, Banal, the 17 year old southpaw “won every round practically but his opponent ( Angky Angkota) was tough and he couldn’t knock the guy down.” The scores of the three judges were 100-89, 99-90 and 98-91.

In what Aldeguer described as a “difficult but thrilling fight” every time Banal had the Indonesian groggy he would recover and fight back. With the win the undefeated Banal improved to 11-0-1 with 8 KO’s while the rugged Angkota dropped to 17-5-0 with 11 KO’s.

In the main event Gorres looked sensational. The flashy southpaw started aggressively against Sony Manakene with a barrage of combinations and when he had the Indon fighter at the receiving end of a mauling Mankane’s corner threw in the towel at 1:11 of the fourth round.

Aldeguer himself said “for the first time Gorres was very impressive.”

Golden Boy Promotions vice president and international promoter Eric Gomez called this reporter/columnist from El Paso to inquire about the Gorres fight and said “Gorres is ready for December and we will make the title fight” which is expected to be against Fernando Montiel.
