FORMER Philippine flyweight champ Z Gorres and WBO Asia-Pacific super-featherweight boss, Czar Amonsot, will start their final weeks training at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood in preparation of their scheduled fights in Las Vegas early next month.

Gorres and Amonsot both have not sparred since they arrived together in Los Angeles from Cebu City on Dec. 27.

All they did was roadwork and light calisthenics drills in the morning and skip rope and shadow box in the afternoon.

They are expected to pit in a sparring session. Amonsot most likely tap by Wild Card Gym’s owner and chief trainer Freddie Roach to trade punches with compatriot Manny Pacquiao, who is preparing for the rematch against Erik Morales on Jan. 21 at Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Gorres, a slick-punching southpaw, is eyeing his second win in as many fights in the United States. He is pitted against 31-year old Samuel Lopez of Mexico.

The 20-year old Amonsot is preparing against American Arturo Quintero, 21. Both fights are slated to be non-title. Lopez’s promoter Guilty Promotions is reported that he hasn’t signed the contract to fight Gorres while Quintero was also reported as not being eager on facing Amonsot.

Gorres has not lose in his last 10 fights after suffering his only defeat from fellow Filipino Edgar Rodrigo in RP flyweight title fight two years ago. He impressively won in his US debut with a first round knockout of compatriot Glenn Donaire in March 2005 as undercard of Pacquiao’s loss to Morales at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Amonsot is coming off in an impressive 8-round knockout win to capture his current title from Indon fighter Victor Mausul in November. He’s undefeated in his last six since losing by 5th round TKO to Simson Butar Butar in Indonesia in Feb. 2005.
