Journeyman Sergio Eduardo Gonzalez (23-14-4, 10KOs), who lost his last six fights, captured the WBC interim Latino lightweight title with a shocking seventh round knockout of Pablo Martin Barboza (16-2, 7KOs) at the Club El Ciclon in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina.
Gonzalez used his experience to frustrate Barboza to no end. In the seventh, Gonzalez landed a powerful left uppercut to the chin, followed by a left cross to the chin, and sent Barboza down to the canvas. Barboza beat the count, but then Gonzalez landed a devastating left uppercut against the ropes to send Barboza down for the count as his corner threw in the towel.
