The featherweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mexico's Jhonny Gonzalez, agrees with his countryman and upcoming opponent Daniel Ponce De Leon, that their contest on September 15th will not go the distance. Ponce De Leon predicted a victory by knockout when the two Mexican boxers trade punches at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Golden Boy Promotions is offering a bonus of $100,000 dollars for the knockout of the night. Gonzalez admits to feeling an additional sense of motivation to secure a knockout victory.
"We both have good power, have a good knockout percentage," Gonzalez said. "I think he's confident in that aspect, because I've been knocked out [in the past], but those were different situations where I wasn't 100% devoted. It's a good thing that he has that mentality because I'm going to be 100% focused and I do expect a knockout - but for me."
"There is an extra motivation, there is a $100,000 dollar prize for the best knockout of the night. I think that's an extra motivation that makes us very excited in the gym - and we will bring that bonus back to Mexico City."
Gonzalez, 30, has a record of 52-7, 45 KOs. Ponce De Leon, 32, has a record of 42-4, 35 KOs.
