Contender star Alfonso Gomez (18-3, 8KOs), fresh off his win over Ben Tackie, is ready to take a big fight in March. In a recent interview with Ernest Gabion of BoxingScene.com, Gomez said that his prefered choice is unbeaten prospect Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (33-0, 26KOs), but if he can't land Chavez, he would be willing to fight former undisputed welterweight champion Zab Judah (35-5, 25KOs).
"I'm going to take a few months off before I fight again. I'm going to wait until March to get well rested. I hurt my knuckle in the second round of the fight (with Tackie). I threw a lot of jabs which was part of my game plan so I kept hurting it even more. I'm going to wait a few months to get back in the ring, hopefully against (Julio Cesar) Chavez Jr. or somebody like Zab Judah," Gomez said.
Judah returns to the ring on November 11 against unheralded Ryan Davis at the Casablanca Casino in Turks And Caicos Islands. Chavez Jr. goes up against his toughest opponent to date, Ray Sanchez (20-1, 15KOs), on Dec. 1. The Chavez-Sanchez fight takes place as the main event of a Top Rank pay-per-view at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
