Juan Carlos Gomez is confident of an upset when meets WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko on March 21 at Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Halle in Stuttgart, Germany. Gomez claims that he is the strongest fighter, in terms of boxing skills, that Vitali has ever faced. He says Lennox Lewis was physically big but didn't have the same kind of boxing ability. The one thing Gomez promises, over and over, is a performance unlike the one that Sam Peter put forth against Klitschko last October.
Gomez, considered one of the best cruiserweights of all-time, wants to prove that his talents are just as good at heavyweight.
"I will be the best skilled fighter that Vitali ever had. There is nobody out there who is skilled like me. Lennox Lewis was just a 'big fighter' and he defeated Vitali. I won't be a heavybag like that ex-champion Samuel Peter. Everyone will be surprised," Gomez told German scribe Von THOMAS DIERENGA. "I want his title. I know I can beat Vitali. I am ready for him and the 21st comes -it's showtime!"
Many years ago, the two fighters were former stablemates, knew each other well and ever shared the same trainer. Gomez says the two were under the same promotional roof and had the same trainer, but were never friends.
"We were never friends. The Klitschko brothers are nice, handsome boys. We had the same trainer, but other than that there is nothing that really unites us," Gomez said.
