Abel Sanchez, trainer of WBO/IBO/WBC-interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs), says his boxer has never received an offer to face either Andre Ward or Carl Froch.
The critics have come out after Golovkin made it known that he's still very interested in facing Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at 168-pounds. Many are wondering why Golovkin would be willing to face Chavez at 168 but not Ward or Froch.
Other than statements printed in the press, Golovkin has never been approached with an offer for either fight. He was presented with an offer, from Top Rank, to face Chavez Jr. The fight fell apart after Chavez became involved in a legal dispute with Top Rank.
Froch is currently targeting Chavez and appears to have little interest in Golovkin, and Ward is fighting his own legal battle with promoter Goossen Promotions.
"I think at this point Golovkin is not the one that needs to be chasing, I think that he is at a point now where guys want to fight him like Andre and Carl Froch in England. I think that some talks have to be made between the two promoters and if we don’t make an offer, let them make an offer and let us turn it down, that way they can come back and say, 'Well you know, they don’t want to fight us.' Andre I think believes that if he gets that stuff straightened out he can right into a big fight, he’s that much of a talent," Sanchez told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
