Abel Sanchez, trainer for WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, has no hard feelings that WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez is likely defending his title against Miguel Cotto on June 7th at New York's Madison Square Garden.
Golovkin has been chasing a fight with Martinez since 2012, but there is no denying that a fight with Cotto will present a far more lucrative payday.
"I think it's a great fight. It's a great fight for boxing. I think it's a good fight for Miguel Cotto. He got a good win over Delvin, but Delvin was not on his level. Sergio is at the point now where he and Miguel will make for a spectacular action-packed fight. Neither guy has that one punch power to knock someone out. I thimk they are going to mesh so well, it is going to be one of the most memorable fights of 2014," Sanchez said.
"Age is catching up with Sergio, but I think the most important thing is that Sergio is fighting the a small fighter like he is. Sergio is not a 160-pounder, he's really a 154-pounder, I think that's his best weight."
