Trainer Abel Sanchez, who handles the career of WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, feels British star Amir Khan (28-3, 19KOs) has not done enough to earn a shot at pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26KOs).
Khan is reportedly the frontrunner to face Mayweather on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The other being under consideration is WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana.
Sanchez feels Maidana, and even WBC/WBA 140-pound champion Danny Garcia, are more deserving of the opportunity to get Mayweather.
"I don't think [Khan] deserves it. I think a guy like Maidana, a guy like Garcia deserves it more. I don't think Amir Khan has done enough to merit that," Sanchez said.
But, Sanchez admits that Khan is probably the best business option, because of his following in the UK, for Mayweather.
"Obviously Amir Khan has a big name and talks himself into some big fights. He may not be deserving but he is probably the biggest money fight for Floyd," Sanchez said.
