Abel Sanchez, trainer for WBA/IBO/WBC-interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs), doubts his fighter will ever land a showdown with Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs).
Golovkin recently knocked out Marco Antonio Rubio in two rounds to pick up the WBC's interim belt and became the mandatory challenger to Cotto's full WBC strap.
The WBC has already announced that Cotto will be allowed a voluntary defense before satisfing any mandatory obligations.
The likely target for Cotto is a May 2015 showdown with Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
"I doubt it very much that Miguel would step into the ring with Golovkin. He’s talking about Canelo, he’s talking about other fighters that are not even in GGG’s league, but that’s business and boxing has become a business so whatever is best for him business wise is what he’s gonna do," Sanchez told On The Ropes Boxing Radio .
