After their respective victories over this past weekend, the WBA has ordered negotiations to commence between the 'super' middleweight champion, Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33KOs) and their 'regular' belt-holder, Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29KOs). There is now a 30-day negotiation period instituted by the WBA with a 120-day window for this fight to take place.
Jacobs stopped Sergio Mora in seven rounds on Friday night in Reading, Pennsylvania and Golovkin halted Kell Brook in five in London, England on Saturday.
Tom Loeffler, the managing director of K2 Promotions (which handles Golovkin) told BoxingScene.com on Monday afternoon while still in Europe - "I'm going to reach out to them to make that fight as soon as possible. I'm going to reach out to them today."
The question is can this fight get made given all the promotional and network alliances that exist. But Loeffler is hopeful this fight can come to fruition for the fall.
"I think so, I think it's a great fight between Gennady and Danny Jacobs and it gives Jacobs the opportunity, he's the 'regular' WBA title holder and Gennady's got four of the titles. So I think it will be a fight between two top middleweights."
As for which date Loeffler has in mind, he says - "It really depends on how (the negotiation) progresses and how we can make the agreement but it could be November or December for the fight."
Loeffler did say that November 26th is a potential date for Golovkin's next outing. And he has placed several venues on hold.
"I always have plan A, plan B and plan C for dates and venues," said Loeffler, chuckling.
