Two days ago, British middleweight world champion Chris Eubank Jr. took to the social networks to trash WBC/WBA/IBF/IBO middleweight king Gennady Golovkin.
The two boxers were in talks for weeks to face each other on September 10th at the O2 Arena in London.
There were a lot of talk from Eubank and his father/manager Chris Eubank Sr. - but in the end the fight fell apart after Eubank was unable to reach an agreement with his own promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport.
After Eubank Jr. fell out of the picture, Hearn offered up his IBF welterweight champion, Kell Brook. Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs) accepted and now will defend his belts against Brook (36-0, 25KOs), who moves up by thirteen pounds.
Once the fight was made, Eubank Jr. trashed the contest and said it was a physical mismatch with Brook putting himself in harm's way. He also called Golovkin a 'fraud' for facing a welterweight.
Eubank Jr. said on Twitter: "GGG when you're done with the child's play - I'm ready and waiting to take those belts off you in a REAL fight. Oh and I'm in the same weight class as you so it will be fair #Fraud #SayNoToBullying."
Golovkin’s trainer, Abel Sanchez, would love to get Eubank Jr. in the ring for GGG's next fight - or a jump to 168 to fight IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale, who is also promoted by Hearn.
"I hope that [Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn] can talk some sense into Chris Sr," Sanchez exclusively told Sky Sports. "The fight fell apart because Chris Sr had some demands that Eddie wasn't able to meet. It's not about money, it's about control."
"Chris Sr needs to understand that, four years when I came over with Carson [Jones], Kell was the only champion. Now you guys are flourishing. The coaching [in Britain] is great - 14 champions in four years, and there's a reason for that.
"So Chris Sr needs to understand that, in order to make fights, you need to work together. If he can come together with Eddie then of course we can make that fight. It's naturally next. Either that, or James DeGale. We can go up in weight and challenge DeGale."
