As of Wednesday, the World Boxing Association has not received notification of an agreement being reached between middleweight champions Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs.
Golovkin holds the WBA's 'super title' at the weight, while Jacobs is the 'regular' champion. The two sides have until October 10th or a purse bid will be ordered. If it goes to a purse bid, the split is 75-25 in favor of Golovkin.
The two sides are negotiating the terms for an HBO televise date of December 10th, with the Barclays Center and Madison Square Garden as potentials venues to host the fight in New York City.
WBA President Gilberto Mendoza Jr. has not received any information regarding a deal being close. The two sides have five more days before the sanctioning body issues the purse bid order.
The only interaction received was a request by Team Jacobs to improve the monetary split, in the event both sides battle at the purse bid.
"As of right now, we have no information regarding an agreement. We gave them a deadline of October 10 to notify us of [an agreement being reached] - and if not the purse bid will go forward," Mendoza told ESPN Deportes.
"The only request I had was from Jacobs' team to improve the percentage [being split between the fighters], but the championships committee is discussing the that matter. We think it's a great fight, which will help WBA's policy to gradually reduce the number of [WBA] titles [in each weight class]. If they face each other before the end of the year as it's being claimed, it would be a benefit for boxing and the fans this sport."
Both fighters were in action last month. Golovkin traveled over to London and stopped IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook in five rounds, while one night earlier Jacobs demolished Sergio Mora in their rematch.
