Callum Smith will return to the ring next month.

Smith (20-0, 15 KOs) ended the challenge of game Argentine Cesar Hernan Reynoso inside six of a scheduled eight rounds at Goodison Park, live on Sky Sports as part of the undercard to Tony Bellew’s historic WBC cruiserweight title win against Ilunga Makabu, to extend his undefeated run while awaiting a shot at world champion Badou Jack.

And now Smith, who goes by the ring moniker ‘Mundo’, has landed a spot on the undercard of another huge world title fight.

He’ll feature in a 12-round contest, against an opponent to be named, at London’s O2 Arena on September 10, exclusively live on Sky Sports Box Office, with his appearance coming as part of the blockbuster showdown between Gennady Golovkin and IBF welterweight king Kell Brook for the WBC, WBA Super, IBF and IBO world middleweight titles.

Smith became mandatory challenger to the aforementioned Swedish-born American Jack earlier this year as he ousted Hadillah Mohoumadi in a European title challenge at Liverpool’s ECHO Arena.

He joins the Golovkin-Brook card with the show, jointly promoted by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport and Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, already packed with action.

Lee Haskins defends his IBF bantamweight crown in a rematch against Stuart Hall and Croydon flyweight Charlie Edwards challenges Johnriel Casimero for the IBF title, while Martin J Ward and Andy Townend clash with the vacant British super-featherweight belt at stake.

Craig Richards and Conor Benn will also feature.

Meanwhile, Eddie Hearn confirmed to Boxing Scene that there would be action on the bill for Kid Galahad and Gavin McDonnell, who will both box over eight rounds, with the possibility of the addition of Callum Smith’s eldest brother Paul.
