This won't sit too well with boxing fans, but Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer wants to see a rematch between Shane Mosley (Golden Boy partner) and Miguel Cotto - before a potential fight between Cotto and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Cotto is scheduled to meet Antonio Margarito on July 26 and Mayweather is slated to meet Oscar De La Hoya in a September rematch. Should Cotto pull through, Schaefer hopes Cotto's next fight is against Mosley. Cotto won a close decision over Mosley last November in New York.

"Cotto has a very tough fight ahead of him with Antonio Margarito and I hope after that he'll give another opportunity to Sugar Shane Mosley," Schaefer said to Setanta Sports. "[Last time] it was a very close fight. Many of the ring observers felt that Shane won that fight. In the meantime Mayweather has own hands full with the Golden Boy, Oscar de la Hoya."

Schaefer says it's premature to even talk about such a fight when Mayweather has tough bout ahead with De La Hoya, though many experts disagree on how tough it really is.

"It is certainly no easy fight, the first one was a split decision by one point," Schaefer said. "Since then, Floyd has answered some of his critics that he didn't bring up the power through the weights with his knockout of Ricky Hatton. And Oscar answered some of his critics that he could only fight for six rounds, and after that he gets tired, with his performance against Stevie Forbes where in the twelfth round he was as fresh as he was in the first."

"I think that's going to be a very good fight. It sounds to me that [they] both have their hands full so I think it would be totally premature to discuss a Cotto-Mayweather fight. If both guys continue to perform and both guys and continue to win I can see down the road their could be a Cotto-Mayweather fight."
