It seems Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions is interested in purchasing a Major League Soccer team, the Houston Dynamo, who are also two-time MLS champions. The team is worth between $30-40 million dollars.
The Houston Chronicle reports De La Hoya is very interested in tapping the growing Hispanic market in Houston, Texas. De La Hoya sees a good opportunity with the Dynamo to capitalize on the crossover appeal on boxing and soccer with Hispanic sports fans.
According to the report, Golden Boy reps were at the FC Dallas playoff game at Robertson Stadium and were said to be impressed with the crowd of 30,000 fans in attendance. Dynamo president Oliver Luck has met with Golden Boy reps in Los Angeles to discuss a possible purchase of the team.
In September, Golden Boy purchased Ring Magazine, KO Magazine, World Boxing Magazine and Pro Wrestling Illustrated, which are the leading periodicals in the boxing and wrestling industry.
