BoxingScene.com caught up with Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Eric Gomez shortly after their fighter Abner Mares captured the IBF bantamweight title at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. The topic of our conversation was the career status of exciting junior middleweight contender Alfredo "El Perro" Angulo. Promoter Gary Shaw recently sold Angulo's contract to Golden Boy Promotions. The fighter of Mexican descent has been inactive because of visa issues since a 1st round knockout victory over Joachim Alcine in July of 2010. Angulo is scheduled to return to the ring next Saturday in Mexicali, BC, Mexico.
Gomez couldn't give a time table on when Angulo would be able to fight in the United States. He did however say that Golden Boy will keep El Perro busy in the mean time.
"We plan on keeping him busy. We have worked out a deal with Televisa to broadcast his fights. You can't just have him sit and wait around. He needs to fight," said Gomez to BoxingScene.com
