Mexican legend and future Hall-of-Famer Marco Antonio Barrera wants to form his own boxing promotional outfit and handle a stable of fighters that would be under him.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that he scheduled to meet with Barrera on Friday to discuss the fighter’s plans.

Schaefer said Barrera has indicated to Golden Boy that he “wants to start his own promotion company, sign fighters and do regular shows on his own.”

There was an earlier report that Barrera, who lost a lopsided twelve round decision in a rematch with Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao last October 6, would fight Humberto Soto on September 16 in Mexico.

However, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum who handles Soto is lining up to face Pacquiao for the WBC lightweight title fight at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas on November 15. Arum went with Soto rather than wait it out for WBA super featherweight champion Edwin Valero to be medically cleared by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
