Former light heavyweight champion Glen Johnson is ready to give it one last shot when he takes on WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson in the main event of an April 12 Showtime event. On the undercard to Paulie Malignaggi-Herman Ngoudjo in Atlantic City last Saturday, Johnson (47-11-2, 32KOs) stopped Hugo Pineda (39-4-1, 28KOs) in the eight round of a scheduled tuneup for Dawson.
Speaking with BoxingScene.com’s Jose Aguirre, Johnson feels very confident of beating the younger champion and reclaiming his position on the light heavyweight throne.
“Coming on April 12, when I fight Chad Dawson, I will be better than I was with Pineda. I don't think Chad Dawson can beat the Glen Johnson you saw tonight,” Johnson said. “If Chad Dawson was watching this fight, he would be shaking in his boots. Getting in the ring with me right now is definitely something that he has to think about seriously because he has never faced anybody like me.”
