Keeping busy as he tries to secure a rematch with IBF light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson, former champion Glen Johnson (48-12-2, 33 KOs) pounded Aaron Norwood (26-10-2, 13 KOs) for four rounds before the the fight was stopped on a co-promoted card between Warriors Boxing/DiBella Ent. at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida.
In other action, middleweight prospect James McGirt Jr. (19-1-1, 9 KOs) was nearly derailed for second time when he met unknown Marcus Upshaw (8-3-1, 3 KOs). After a strong start, dropping Upshaw in the first, he struggled during the fight and was dropped in the tenth and final round. Some ringside observers said he was lucky to escape with a draw. The scores were 94-94, 94-94 and 95-93 for Upshaw.
McGirt moved down from super middleweight after being knocked out two fights ago by Carlos De Leon Jr. He thought 160 would be a safer play, but it seems that McGirt needs a lot more work before he can even be close to the level of his famous father, Buddy McGirt.
