World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman is appealing to A US judge not to jail former Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson on drug charges and driving while under the influence.

Tyson has pleaded guilty to a felony charge and the DUI misdemeanor. He was stopped for erratic driving, outside a Scottsdale nightclub last December 29th.

Tyson served three years in prison after being convicted of rape in 1992 and went to jail again in 1999 after pleading no contest to assault, following a minor road traffic accident.

Although probation is a viable option for this latest offense, the prosecutor is demanding a four year jail sentence.

Tyson’s lawyer points out he’s been trying to sort himself in rehab, and is already doing voluntary community work.

Don Jose said: “Mike Tyson needs to be given community service. He also needs professional help and support. If I can meet with him very soon I will. I’m going to look for that opportunity.

“My message to Mike is forget about bitterness and sad feelings about the way society has behaved with him. His acts to me are of rebellion against all the bad things, the attacks, the hurt and humiliation that he’s been receiving.

“Forget about that! And be the sincere, charitable good man that I know that he is, because I know him very well.”
