NEW YORK, NY – World Middleweight Champion Jermain Taylor remains on the top of undefeated middleweight contender Giovanni Lorenzo’s wish list, but there is another fighter that he would like to challenge: Kelly Pavlik.
“I was very impressed by Pavlik’s win over Miranda,” said Lorenzo. “Miranda talked a lot before the fight, but he didn’t deliver. He cared more about Taylor than the guy he had in front of him and Pavlik beat him at his own game. I think me and Pavlik would be bombs away from the opening bell.
"The fact is that Taylor really isn't interested in fighting middleweights, only built up welterweights. He'll do to Pavlik what he has done to me and that's say he wants to fight us then he'll avoid us . . . especially after his last performance. So it makes logical sense for the two best top 5 rated undefeated middleweights to fight each other for the Peoples’ World Championship. I know HBO would like that fight."
Lorenzo returns to the ring on June 2 in an off-TV bout against Sterling, IL native Bruce Rumbolz (21-12-2, 15 KO’s) in an 8/10 round middleweight bout. Lorenzo is 23-0, 15 KO’s and has knocked out nine of his last 10 opponents. He is ranked #5 by the WBC and #8 by the IBF.
