Former world champion Giovani "Aztec Warrior" Segura aggravated a left wrist injury in training and the boxer has been forced to withdraw at the late hour. Segura (28-1-0, 24 KOs) was scheduled to return on Thursday in a ten round flyweight bout in Rosarito, Mexico. He was going to face Colombia's Luis Carlos Leon (13-4-0, 11 KOs). Segura hurt his left wrist after landing a punch and immediately stopped training. He went to his doctor and it was determined that his inflammation and pain made it impossible to fight on Thursday.
"I am very frustrated because I won't be able to fight before my people on special night where we celebrate the independence of my beloved Mexico. I had a great camp for five week," Segura said. "Yesterday the pain was unbearable when I connected with a punch on the mitts being held by my coach. I want to give an apology to the fans. I am a real warrior, but this was impossible and a risky fight to go into injured."
On the undercard, former world champion Julio Cesar "Pingo" Miranda (35-6-0, 28 KOs) will take part in a 10-round super flyweight bout with Deivis Perez (14-4-0, 8 KOs), and their fight is likely the new main event. The rest of the lineup will remain the same.
