Multiple sources have advised BoxingScene.com that unbeaten welterweight contender Giovani Santillan (25-0) has signed a co-promotional contract with Top Rank Inc. He is also promoted by Thompson Boxing.

The news was first reported by ESPN.com’s Steve Kim. Santillan is expected to return to action on June 16th in a bout televised on an ESPN platform against an opponent to be announced in the very near future.

The 28-year-old Southern California native hasn’t been very active in recent years but will likely get a shot at a big fight very soon provided he continues to win.

Top Rank’s welterweight stable is top heavy, led by WBO champion and highly rate pound-for-pound fighter Terence Crawford. WBA “world” champion Alexander Besputin, former super lightweight champion Jose Benavidez, Egidijis Kavaliauskas, and Chris Van Heerden are some of the the other welterweights signed to the promotional outfit.

Santillan fought just once in both 2018 and 2019 after having fought three times in 2017.

Santillan has topped his last four opponents in four rounds or less. In his last ring appearance, he blew away Wilfrido Buelvas in two rounds in November.
