With the aim of unifying his super middleweight title against one of the champions of the other world entities, the current beltholder of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez of Mexico, returned to the gym on Monday to begin training at the Zapari Boxing Gym.
It has been two weeks since he defended his crown for the fourth time by winning a twelve round unanimous decision over Colombian Roamer Alexis Angulo.
While he was upset with the outcome, Ramirez is not satisfied with his performance and wants to improve in some areas of his skills.
To achieve the objectives in which he has set, Ramirez says it is necessary for him to secure a unification and high level contests against fighters who could advance his career.
"Roamer is a strong fighter who has a very hard punch. I felt that I lacked a little bit, I felt that I was not at my maximum that night, but we won thanks to God, I was victorious with my title intact. For the next fight I will continue working even more, since I want to improve, I want to be a solid champion, I want to be the 'pound for pound' best and for people to see that I'm the best at 168 pounds," acknowledged Ramírez.
"I know I have talent, I can give more, I know I can improve based on that and what better to learn than from my mistakes. I'm looking for big fights, unifying titles, fighting with other champions, fighting only with competitive fighters, unifying titles especially.
The date for his return to the ring is still not confirmed, but his manager Jesús Zápari and his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank are already working on what would be his third bout so far in 2018.
"At the beginning of November can be the date, we still do not know, but I would love to fight again before the end of the year," Ramirez concluded.
