If all goes well on February 3rd, WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez (36-0) would like to land an unification fight later in the year.
He must first take care of Habib Ahmed (25-0-1) in Corpus Christi, Texas in an ESPN headlining bout that kicks off Top Rank's 2018 campaign.
Elsewhere in the division newly crowned IBF champion Caleb Truax is contractually obligated to face Jame DeGale in a rematch. Truax pulled off a massive upset when he traveled to the UK in December and defeated DeGale via majority decision.
The 26-year-old Ramirez would also like to face the winner of World Boxing Super Series. In the semifinals Chris Eubank Jr. faces George Groves and Callum Smith faces Juergen Braehmer. The fights take place on February 17th and 24th.
"I would fight Truax or the winner of the tournament in Europe. I am interested in those fights. I would go to Europe even to fight them. It doesn't matter to me the date or where the fight takes place. I just want the fight," Ramirez told BoxingScene.com.
There is no love lost in the grudge match between Eubank and Groves. Ramirez expects it to be an action packed fight and sees scenarios where both men can leave the ring with the victory.
"It is a very interesting fight. I think Eubank is a little small for this weight class but he is strong and very fast. It should be a good fight. Groves is a big guy and strong. I think it will exciting and we will wait for the winner of the tournament. It doesn't matter against who. I think the fans would like to see that fight," Ramirez explained.
The Mexico native plans on having a very active year. If everything goes well on Saturday he is tentatively slated to return in May.
"If we can get out of this fight clean without any injuries the plan is to have four fights this year," revealed Ramirez.
