On Saturday night WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez (37-0 25 KOs) will defend his title for the fourth time against the unknown but hard hitting Roamer Angulo (23-0 20 KOs).
The fight will be the main event of an ESPN televised card with Alex Saucedo facing Lenny Zuppavigna in the co-featured bout.
The action takes place at the Chesapeake Energy arena in Oklahoma City. Ramirez's trainer Hector Zapari sees a lot of similarities between OKC and their hometown of Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico.
"We are very happy to be fighting in Okalahoma. We don't mind fighting anywhere. Zurdo knows there are a lot of Mexicans here and we know they will be cheering for Zurdo, helping to push him. The climate is very similar to Mazatlan and we will feel right at home," Zapari told BoxingScene.com.
As for the fight itself, Zapari said that Angulo is a dangerous fighter but is confident that they prepared well for the fight and that Ramirez plans on putting on a spectacular performance.
"Zurdo was very disciplined with his training and plans on putting on a spectacular performance for all of the fans. He is ready for whatever style Angulo may bring to the ring. We expect Angulo to come in great shape as well so we can put on a great show.," said Zapari.
Ramirez-Angulo and Saucedo-Zappavigna will be televised live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes at 9 p.m. ET. Undercard action, including appearances by 2016 Olympic gold medalist Robson Conceicao, female fighting sensation Mikaela Mayer, and heavyweight knockout artist Trey Lippe Morrison, will be broadcast on ESPN+ beginning at 6 p.m. ET.
