WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez (34-0) has been out of action since his title winning performance in April over longtime champion Arthur Abraham, which took place on the HBO Pay-Per-View undercard to the Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley trilogy.
The 25-year-old Mexican was supposed to return to the ring in July as part of the Terence Crawford vs. Viktor Postol undercard - but ended up going under the knife to clean up an injury to his right hand.
The injury has healed and Ramirez is ready to go.
"We are almost ready. We see anxious to get back in the ring. We have a date now and it looks like we will be back mid to late February," said Ramirez who admitted it hasn't been easy for him to be out of the ring so long.
"It was hard. We like to be active. I was a little sad because of that but things happen for a reason. The break helped me and now I have recuperated and I will be back stronger and better than ever."
The injury had been bothering Ramirez for a couple years and had been worsening with the wear and tear of each fight. Ramirez said that he will be more explosive now they the injury is behind him.
"I am going to be a lot better. This injury was a couple years old. I wast able to hit exactly how I wanted too. I could feel the injury. I will be back better than before," Ramirez told BoxingScene.com.
