George Groves has backed Carl Froch to overcome Andre Ward when he puts his WBC super middleweight title on the line in Atlantic City later tonight. WBA champion Ward is the favorite to win the Super Six trophy. However, British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion Groves believes the Nottingham fighter's unorthodox style will cause Ward big problems.
"Carl's style is not textbook and that's to his advantage. He's hard to work out and hard to break down," Groves told Sky Sports News. "When you've got somebody with good ability and good technique, being as unorthodox as possible messes up their rhythm.
"As Andre comes in and throws his sharp, fast orthodox shots, Carl will just wing in a hard uppercut or a hard left hook. That will upset Ward's rhythm. But Ward is a good technical fighter, very fast with great balance. I thought Ward would win this fight a few months ago when it was made, but as time's gone on the more I've seen, I think Froch will beat him. He always comes and delivers.
"He's a strong man, a strong fighter who throws hard punches. If he gets into his rhythm first then it's his night. I reckon we'll see a great fight that will go the distance."
