George Groves erupted over the statements that were made by his former promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing. Hearn is very interested in making a rematch between Groves and Olympic gold medal winner James DeGale. Several years ago, Groves handed DeGale his first and only career defeat with a close twelve round decision.
Hearn had suggested an even 50-50 split for rematch, which Groves feels is an insult. Last year, Groves had 80,000 fans present for his rematch with Carl Froch. Groves is the mandatory challenger to WBC champion Anthony Dirrell, while DeGale is mandatory to Froch, who likely won't fight the once beaten boxer.
Groves is open to facing DeGale but he'll only consider the match when Hearn makes a reasonable offer.
"Wow Eddie Hearn can talk some waffle. James DeGale in a 50-50? 10 steps forward and I've took 10 steps back. I haven't lost a round in my last 2 fights. James stopped a fat out of shape dude who showed up with no trainer. When I box I sell out arenas or stadiums. When James boxes he sells out his soul. I don't need to bow to you sir Eddie. I'm following my path and I'm not your whore. I'm happy to work hard for it, to gamble with it and to be patient with it. Make me a sensible offer," Groves wrote on Sportlobster.com
