IBF/IBO/WBC/WBA middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (36-0, 33KOs) believes WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12KOs) might now be ready to fight him.
Golovkin was in action last Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London. He stopped IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, who moved up by thirteen pounds for the fight. Brook gave a good account of himself and landed some very hard combinations on Golovkin during the contest.
Saunders has been inactive since winning his world title last December from Andy Lee. He is scheduled to defend his belt on the Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tyson Fury II card on October 29th in Manchester.
After his victory, Saunders took to the social networks to call him out. He was approached about fighting Golovkin earlier this year, but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement on the financial terms.
"They're trying to make the fight happen now. It will happen. My pen is in my pocket, I'm waiting to see the contract, to sign to fight you, GGG. Let's hope that the mandatory you've got doesn't get in the way because I'm fighting on October 29, and I really don't mind fighting you a week after," Saunders said.
"Let's make sure that we don't use the mandatory challenger to get out of anything. You want the WBO belt, I've got it, and I'm willing to put it on the line."
While many fans believe Saunders is just talking the talk, Golovkin feels this time the WBO champ is actually ready to walk the walk. Golovkin predicted prior to his meeting with Brook, that if he happens to struggle in the contest then a lot of potential opponents will come forward to fight him.
Golovkin told Sky Sports - "I want a fight with [Saunders] and I am open for everybody I think now he's ready. It's the business, you know he talks too much. It's a very good fight for TV and the fans. Why not?"
