The Mayor of Mexico City, Miguel Angel Mancera, greeted the World Boxing Council, World Boxing Association, International Boxing Federation, International Boxing Organization middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 34 KOs), naming him  distinguished guest of this city.

Miguel Angel Mancera thanked Gennady for his contribution of $50 thousand dollars donated to the Reconstruction Fund of the capital of the country, and  the Carlos Slim Foundation will multiply it , in order to contribute with $300 thousand dollars for the victims of the earthquake.

Mancera recognized Golovkin for his social commitment to the citizens of the city. In a reciprocal way, the boxer gave him an autographed glove.

Hours earlier, the boxer from Kazakhstan visited the Moctezuma Pediatric Hospital to give welcome support and distribute toys to children who are struggling with all their might against cancer.

After visiting the areas of emergency, surgery and oncology, he also spent some time with relatives of the kids, accompanied by the head of the Ministry of Health (Sedesa), Armando Ahued Ortega, and the President  of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Sulaiman.

Gennady praised the medical staff of the hospital and thanked the children for the opportunity to give him a moment of happiness, love and hope.

This is the second time that the boxer visited a hospital in this city.

Golovkin commented: "I thank God for the opportunity to serve and be able to help."

IN OTHER NEWS: The Sports Commission Argentina's Senate, presided over by Julio César Catalán Magni, held a special ceremony to present  the prize "Delfo Cabrera 2017" to Sergio "Maravilla" Martínez.

He was awarded the prestigious gold medal for "his professionalism and sporting career in boxing" at the 16th edition of the iconic "Delfo Cabrera 2017" presentations by the Sports Commission of the Senate.

"This is a recognition of Sergio's work and diverse achievements," said Catalán Magni, President  of the Sports Committee of the Senate.

After receiving this well earned and well deserved award, Sergio Martinez commented: "It's a nice feeling that you recognize my boxing career, but this award is also special because it recognizes what we do beyond the sport. Without a doubt, it is one of the most special recognitions that I've received in my life."
