Gennady Golovkin has been one of the most active fighters at the world class level since making his debut in the United States in 2012. The plan coming into this year was again to keep that brisk pace of fights. The goal was to fight four times as they did in 2013. Is that still the goal?

"That's the way it started out, he had two fights before the end of May in 2015. Right now, it really depends on who is available, the HBO schedule. So it's unclear as of right now what the fall schedule will be like but within the next couple of weeks we'll get a good idea on when his next fight will be and who it will be against," said the Managing Director of K2 Promotions, Tom Loeffler.

The HBO budget will also determine how many more times we see Golovkin this year.

On February 21st in Monaco, Golovkin halted Martin Murray in 11 rounds. Then on May 16th, he stopped Willie Monroe Jr. in six at the Forum in Los Angeles.

Loeffler says that they are still awaiting a resolution in regards to the WBC title as it relates to the potential fight between Miguel Cotto (who holds that title) and Saul Alvarez that is slated for the fall. By winning the WBC interim title by blowing out Marco Antonio Rubio in two rounds last October, it gave Golovkin the mandatory position for whoever held that belt.

K2 has made it clear that there would have to be some sort of agreement in place for them to step aside to allow that fight to be contested for the WBC middleweight title.
