At the Arena Roberto Duran in Panama City, Panama, middleweight contender Gennady Golovkin (19-0, 16KOs) demolished Milton Nunez (21-2-1, 19KOs) in the first round to win the interim-WBA title. Golovkin attacked Nunez from the start and battered him with both hands until Nunez dropped. He made it up but seemed to be too hurt to continue.

Eric Castro (8-2, 7KOs) pulled out minor upset in a lightweight contest when he knocked out Whyber Garcia (22-9, 15KOs) in the eight round. This was Garcia's third knockout in a row but his previous two KO defeats came to top level fighters like Takahiro Aoh and Yuriorkis Gamboa. He was expected to win this contest.

Nilson Julio Tapia (13-2, 10KOs) won the vacant WBA Fedecentro middleweight title with an upset first round TKO over previously undefeated Reward Marti (6-1, 6KOs). Marti was being groomed by some of the locals as a top prospect. Ringside observers were shocked to see it end so early.
