Likeable Sammy Gell0-ani, the Cebu-based boxing promoter from the famous ALA Gym of respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer has been chosen for the prestigious “Promoter of the Year” award at the sixth Gabriel “Flash” Elorde “Banquet of Champions” at the Dusit Hotel on Saturday.

Gello-ani who heads SGG Promotions has staged some outstanding fight cards where fans have been treated to exciting bouts on a consistent basis. His latest presentation was the battle for the vacant OPBF super flyweight title in which  Z “The Dream” Gorres scored an impressive unanimous decision over former champion Waengpetch Chuwatana of Thailand.

Prior to that SGG Promotions was involved in the biggest promotion of the year, “Bakbakan sa Tagbilaran” in cooperation with popular sportsman, Mayor Dan Neri Lim of Tagbilaran City.

That fight card headlined by WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight champion Rey “Boom Boom” who scored a smashing KO win over Obote Ameme of Tanzania and Czar Amonsot who won the WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight title with a stunning eight round KO over Victor Mausul of Indonesia drew over 25,000 fans to the Carlos P. Garcia stadium named in honor of the late president who was from Bohol.

Gello-ani is known for his passion for boxing and his desire to showcase promising young talents and for the quality of the match-making that ensures excellent fights where the fans get their money’s worth.  The well known promoter also played a crucial role in the historic agreement signed between the ALA Gym and Golden Boy Promotions which would initially see Bautista and Gorres fight on the undercard of the super featherweight title defense of Marco Antonio Barrera against Rocky Juarez at the Staples Center on May 20.
