IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale is excited to make his US debut on Saturday. Geale spoke to us on this week's edition of BoxingScene Radio and said that he doesn't feel any pressure to perform but wants to put on a good show.
"I am feeling great. It's a long flight and it took a while to get here but I got off the plane and I feel good. It's good knowing all of the hard work is done. I don't feel too much pressure to be honest but I'm excited by this challenge. I grew up watching a lot of big fights in the US and I am excited about it," Geale explained.
The Australian said that he had a lot of choices as far opponents and that they chose Barker partly because of the early success he had against Sergio Martinez before ultimately getting knocked out.
"I know Darren Barker is a good fighter. We had a lot of options for fights but he did well with Sergio Martinez up until those last rounds," Geale stated.
Geale knows that Barker will be extremely motivated by having another opportunity at a world title. He does however think that Barker's team may be looking past him.
"Darren is coming in hungry. He has only came up short the one time against Sergio. I think they forget that I am hungry too like when I went to Germany (to win his world title). I think they might be taking me lightly," Geale told us on BoxingScene Radio.
The 32-year-old has heard WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin's name plenty of times since he landed on US soil. Geale said that he has no problems facing the hard hitter if his team feels it makes sense. He doesn't think GGG has faced a fdighter of his caliber.
"There definitely has been a lot of talk. Since I've been here in the US they've talked about it a lot. Like I've said in all the interviews, if my management feels that's the right move let's do it. He's fought well and he deserves credit but I think I can take him to places where he hasn't been before," Geale stated.
