The wife of the late Arturo Gatti, Amanda Rodrigues, is going to sue the state of Pernambuco in Brazil for having her imprisoned for 18 days in a local jail and for telling reporters that she likely killed her husband. Rodrigues found Gatti dead in their rented condo in the resort town of Porto de Galinhas on July 11.

Police believed that Rodrigues strangled Gatti to death with a purse strap after he passed out from a night of drinking. An autopsy, in Brazil, would later rule the death as a suicide, although a second autopsy by Gatti's family in Canada did not rule out the possibility of murder.

Rodrigues' lawyer, Celio Avelino, said his client was going to sue "wrongfully accusing her of murder" and the paperwork will be filed in about 20 days.
