Following Tim Bradley's big win over Carlos Abregu at Agua Caliente in Rancho Mirage, California, promoter Gary Shaw unloaded on both Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions. He referred to both promotional companies as two leagues who are bringing down the sport with their ongoing strategy of making "in-house" matches and refusing to pit their stars against top fighters who are promoted by their competitors.
"I am going to be at HBO's offices next week and I am going to tell them to stop this. This is bad for boxing. We need to see the best fighters fight the best," Shaw said.
Shaw continued his rant, "[Bob] Arum says that Bradley isn't a big star and has to fight at Indian casinos. Well I built Timothy from the ground up. He didn't make [Manny] Pacquiao. He was a star. I made the [Erik] Morales fight for Pacquiao. People forget that."
Shaw continued by saying that he had the best junior welterweight and junior middleweight in the world. "Tim Bradley is the best 140 pounder in the world. He
said he wants to prove that he is the best by fighting the best."
Shaw then spoke about Angulo, "El Perro will fight anyone from junior middleweight to heavyweight. He is the best in the world at junior middleweight."
