Angel Garcia, father and trainer for former WBC/WBA 140-pound champion Danny Garcia, made some controversial comments to media members during his son's recent open workout.
In his last fight on April 11th, Danny (30-0, 17KOs) struggled to win a twelve round majority decision over Lamont Peterson at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
There were some who felt Peterson did enough to get the decision. Garcia is back next Saturday night, at the same Brooklyn venue, when he moved up in weight to 147-pounds to face former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi in the Premier Boxing Champions main event on ESPN.
Angel alleged that Peterson may have been on "something" but never actually said what he felt Peterson was on. He also says both sides did anti-doping tests under USADA, but they never received Peterson's test results.
The statements become more controversial due to Peterson's cloudy history. The boxer received a synthetic testosterone injection from a physician around the time of the Amir Khan fight in 2011. Their planned rematch for May 19, 2012 was cancelled following Peterson's positive test for synthetic testosterone. The boxer stated that he did receive synthetic testosterone treatment due to a medical condition but in no way was he looking to get an advantage in the contest.
"At the end of the day, Peterson never sat down [in the corner]. I'm not saying what the f*** he was on. I know it was no God damn Red Bull. He looked like he was on some sh*t. I don't want to accuse people of nothing or call people junkies or whatever you want to call them. We did anti-doping, yes we did. But we always get both tests at the end of the results. We get the results both fighters and we never got Peterson's [test result]. I'm not exposing nobdy, I'm just saying. We still beat the motherf****er, whatever the f*** he was on," Angel said.
