Trainer Robert Garcia says former champion Antonio Margarito is very motivated to return to action in the fall.
As BoxingScene.com reported last week, Margarito traveled to a medical facility in Utah and had his right eye thoroughly examined and received medical clearance to return to the ring.
Margairto's right eye was first injured in his loss against Manny Pacquiao in November 2010 and forced him to retire the following year, after the eye swelled up like a balloon during his rematch with Miguel Cotto in December of that year.
Margarito is already in shape and eager to fight again. His team had a very good meeting with Bob Arum of Top Rank, who will set the return date upon receiving the medical clearance documents.
Margarito (38-8 and 27 knockouts), 37-years-old, is looking to compete at the junior middleweight limit of 154-pounds and he's walking around right now a few pounds over 160.
Garcia will train and says the fight boxer is ready to get back in the mix
"If the doctor approved him and he said that he can fight, he has a medical endorsement, and if the doctor has already approved him - then I support him. I'm not someone who can evaluate who can get in and not get in. Tony is a warrior, he will go in well prepared and right now from what I see he's very motivated, very positive. He spoke [of his return] with a motivation that felt so positive, so I think he must be given the benefit of the doubt. I hope that he does well, and he has good fights and reclaims what he had a few years ago," Garcia told ESPN Deportes.
