Trainer Robert Garcia gives his fighter, Marcos Maidana, a good shot to win a twelve round decision over Floyd Mayweather Jr. Their rematch is set for September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. A lot of experts feel Maidana will require a knockout to beat Mayweather in his backyard of Las Vegas. Garcia says a decision victory is possible but a knockout can happen if Maidana lands the right punch.
Maidana lost a twelve round majority decision to Mayweather on May 3rd. If he approaches the rematch in the same manner as last December's win over Adrien Broner, Garcia sees no reason as to why Maidana couldn't win on the cards.
"Maidana goes out for the knockout and if he lands the right punch, he could knock him out. But I don’t think that we need to win by knockout, I think we can also win a decision. We thought the same against Broner and Maidana beat him up really good and took the decision. I think we can do the same with Mayweather," Garcia told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
"If we win the rounds clear and there’s no doubt that the rounds have to go our way, the judges can’t score against us. The judges know that close rounds, yeah they may give them to Mayweather, but not when Maidana wins the rounds clearly. I think the judges are gonna do the right thing."
