At the El For in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, WBO interim junior flyweight champion Ramon Garcia (14-1-1, 8 KOs) won a razor close twelve round majority decision over former champion Manuel Vargas (28-6-1, 13 KOs). The controversial scoring in Mexico continues for the second week in a row. The scores were 115-113 and 115-113 for Garcia and 114-114 for the draw. Once again the winner was flopped around, as it was last week for the Arce vs. Parra encounter.
When the winner was announced, Vargas got the nod and everyone thought a new champion was crowned. Victory did not last long as Garcia was soon after announced as the winner, retaining his title.
Former WBC super featherweight champion Humberto Gutierrez (28-2-1, 20 KOs) picked up a ten round unanimous decision over Rene Gonzalez (27-3-1, 21 KOs). The scores were 98-92, 98-92 and 99-91.
