Ganigan Lopez (27-6, 17KOs) pulled off an upset last week when he traveled over to Tokyo, Japan to win a twelve round majority decision over Yu Kimura to capture the WBC junior flyweight championship.

The fight would be a rematch of last July's clash, when the shoe was on the other foot. Guevara was the champion and won a twelve round decision over Lopez in Sinaloa last July.

Guevara traveled over to Japan last November and was stunned by Kimura for the world title, by split decision over twelve rounds at the Xebio Arena.

The fight with Lopez was Kimura's first defense of the belt.

Earlier today, World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman praised Lopez and presented him with his world title.

Guevara picked up the title in December of 2014 with a knockout over Japan's Akira Yaegashi and made two successful defenses before losing the belt to Kimura. He also challenged for the IBF title in 2012 and lost a twelve round split decision to Filpino John Riel Casimero.

The mandatory challenger to Lopez is Filipino contender Jonathan Taconing and the champion has until July to make that defense unless something is worked out between both sides.
