According to reports in Panama, there are negotiations currently taking place for Celestino Caballero to dump the super bantamweight division to move up in weight to challenge WBA "regular" featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa. Caballero was recently stripped of the IBF's version of the title at super bantam. He still holds the WBA's "super version" of the title at 122.
The reports in Panama do not give a date but they do state Gamboa-Caballero would take place in a doubleheader featuring WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez in the main event. The reports state the obvious, the winner of Gamboa-Caballero would fight Juanma at a later date.
During the Pinoy Power 3 pay-per-view, it was announced Lopez would return in the month of June to defend the title against tough Filipino Bernabe Concepcion. Caballero has been calling out Juanma for over a year. A win over Gamboa would put him directly in position for that fight. Beating Gamboa is easier said than done. There was some talk of Gamboa-Caballero a year ago but the fight never came off.
