Yuriorkis Gamboa's recovery seems to be going full throttle. The former world champion and Olympic gold medal winner posted a video on his Facebook account, where the veteran fighter is seen jogging and doing boxing-related exercises.
The interesting thing about the video is that it was made in Cuba amid the social constraints and economic difficulties imposed by the coronavirus.
Gamboa, who usually spends seasons in his home province of Guantanamo, posted a video surrounded by those who have helped his recovery to show that his return to the ring is likely going to happen at some point this year, following an operation in Miami to repair a torn Achilles tendon.
"They said it was going to take six months to a year and incredibly with the support of God that is in our lives, it has given us the opportunity [to fight in 2020], as we have shown everyone here that I am walking,'" the Gamboa, according to George Ebro. "And not just walking, but running. We had faith to see improvement in four or five months, but not in only two.''
Gamboa was intervened in late January by a medical team at South Baptist Hospital. The boxer suffered the injury during the second round of the December 28 world title fight against Gervonta Davis, who won the bout by knockout in the twelfth round.
Gamboa himself had unveiled on his social media the result of the MRI performed in Miami that confirmed the damage he suffered against Davis.
Gamboa appeared to be quite mobile in the video, throwing combinations into the air and expressing his appreciation to those who have worked with him during this period.
"Thanks to the people who have worked with me, on this rehabilitation," Gamboa added. "Coming back to your land is definitely like coming to catch a bretah of fresh air.''
