Peter Fury, uncle and head trainer of undefeated heavyweight contender Tyson Fury, is shocked that Manny Pacquiao is claiming that he won a twelve round decision over Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao's performance was lackluster. Mayweather won a unanimous decision with few issues. After the fight, Pacquiao said that he injured his right shoulder and couldn't fight properly for the rest of the bout. Even with the injury, he felt that he did more than enough to clinch a twelve round decision victory.
Fury's nephew will challenge WBA/IBO/IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on October 24th in Germany.
"I’m not really a man of excuses. They went in there, they had a fight for fortunes of money and then to say after the fight, 'I got a bad shoulder,' and then he said he thought he won the fight. Is he blind? He got his ears boxed totally off him, then to come up with a shoulder injury," Peter told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
"If you knew about the shoulder before you got in there, cancel the fight, postpone it. Let the public know you have a niggling shoulder, don’t cry afterwards. It’s almost like saying, 'Tyson’s got the flu in sparring,' but he goes in there and loses to Klitschko in a few rounds. Do you think I’m going to walk up and say, 'He lost because he had the flu?' Take it like a man."
"If you’re gonna get in there and fight, there’s no excuses, get in there and fight and that’s it. You know what you’re getting in to, don’t complain about it afterwards because you make yourself look about an inch tall doing it."
