Peter Fury, uncle and trainer of undefeated heavyweight contender Tyson Fury, was very upset with the way the entire fight played out between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Fury's anger is focused on Pacquiao entering the fight with a pre-existing shoulder injury and then further aggravating the shoulder during the fourth round. Mayweather went on to win a twelve round unanimous decision with very few problems during the contest. Fury is upset at Pacquiao claiming to be physically fine prior to the fight and then claiming injury in the aftermath.
"I lost a lot of respect for ‘Pac-Man’ to be honest because when he’s got a shoulder injury, why go ahead with the fight? People paid hundreds of thousands, millions lost in gambling. It’s bringing boxing into a bad name, to say, 'I’m 100% fit,' then fight and then say, “I couldn’t do my job because my shoulder is damaged," Fury told On The Ropes Boxing Radio .
"It’s definitely not good for business, I don’t think it’s good for anything, except for them. The only thing it was good for was for the fighters themselves, because Mayweather is laughing his way to the bank."
Fury also sees no reason for a rematch, as he believes Mayweather would win every single time.
"I don’t think there’s any point. I think Mayweather will beat Pacquiao seven days a week, he finds a way. Come forward fighters for Mayweather, that’s just the way it is. He’s an excellent back foot fighter and he’s mastered that to almost genius level. I think Mayweather is definitely going to retire undefeated, I don’t think there’s anyone around to touch him," Fury said.
