Frank Warren, co-promoter of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, is fully rejecting what he feels are excuses coming from Deontay Wilder and his team.
Back in February, Fury dropped Wilder twice and stopped him in the seventh round to capture the WBC world title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The fight was a rematch of their contest from December 2018, which ended in a controversial twelve round split draw. In that fight, it was Fury who went down twice.
In the aftermath of the loss, Wilder claimed that his ring-walk outfit had weighed 40-pounds and weakened his legs of energy. He claimed to have been completely exhausted by the third round.
More recently Wilder's younger brother, cruiserweight boxer Marsellos Wilder, made allegations that Fury loaded his gloves.
"Talk about excuses, Tyson in the first fight never came out with any excuses, never complained, which he should have done," Warren told Sky Sports.
"He never complained about the result. He never complained that he had to lose, over the course of six months, 11 stone in weight.
"He didn't complain that he had been inactive for a long period of time. He never complained about anything, just got on with it, and did what he had to do. I'm a big fan of Deontay, but I thought he embarrassed himself with some of the excuses that he made.
"You're better off not saying anything. Just get on with it. Get to the rematch and prove everybody wrong. That will be his opportunity to do that. I hope he doesn't. I don't believe he will, but anything can happen in boxing when you've got big punchers. He's a big puncher."
There will be a trilogy, as Wilder exercised an immediate rematch clause. Their respective promoters are targeting the third contest to take place before the end of the year.
